Games: 1
DOB: 1863
DOD: 01 May 1944 Brisbane

1879
A person named J. L. Westwood was a competitor in the Carlton Sports Day held on the East Melbourne Cricket Ground.

1882 Westwood was named in a mixed Carlton team to play Melbourne Imperial Trades on Thursday August 31.

1883 September 1
Westwood debuted for Carlton in the game against Melbourne played at the Fitzroy ground at Brunswick Street.
This game was moved from the M.C.G. as it was unavailable.
Westwood was named among the Blues' better players.
In the first half; "The play still continued very rough, and breaches of the rules were numerous. At this stage Westwood, one of the Carlton players, was thrown so violently that he was stunned and had to be carried to the pavilion; but he recovered after a while, and was able to resume play." (The Argus Sept. 03 1883 p5)
This seems to be his only senior game for Carlton.

1884 August 23
Westwood was named as of the better players for Carlton Second Twenty or Reserves in their 2-0 victory over Geelong.

When God's Footballer Graced The Turf

Ray Westwood the grand son of William, contacted the Carlton Football Club in April 2012.
He provided Tony De Bolfo with information on his grandfather's association with the Blues, and his missionary work in China.
The Westwood family believes William, a full-back, was a Carlton vice captain. He does not appear in the Senior vice captains list, but quite possibly could have been a Second Twenty/Reserves leader.
