An unsuccessful end to a successful year....

Sour September, 2009

The hype and excitement of returning to Finals Football in 2009 came to a crushing conclusion, and all round gut-wrenching, month of football both on and off field for Carlton. These events had Carlton and its players at the front of the media's mind all month:

1. The Elimination
Carlton's return to finals looked good until 3 quarter time against the Lions, when suddenly we gave up a 5 goal lead to a resurgent Lions outfit. It was some minor solace that the Lions were bundled out the week after, but we had something else to worry about.....

2. Judd's suspension
The pristine record of Captain Chris Judd was called into question when he was done for 'Intentional Contact to the Face' of Lion Michael Rischitelli. Although Rischitelli was choking a Blue on the ground, Carlton's farcical efforts to get Judd off only extended his delay into 2010 by another week....

3. Stevo?
Rumours surfaced of a potential premature retirement for Nick Stevens given a recurring neck injury. Was it true? We weren't told by month's end but....

4. Bad Boy Fev
Brendan Fevola not only got national press coverage for his Footy Show 'Street Talk' whilst clearly inebriated but somehow managed to upset the Club hierarchy sufficiently enough to get himself on the Trade Table for 2010...

At the end of the month, and only looking forward to potential Trades for 2010, the Blues had been in the press for all the wrong reasons.
