Game Review

Carlton went into the game as a warm favourite, despite losing their last 6 finals matches to Richmond. Recent clashes between the two sides had tended towards physical encounters, often with punches being thrown. In this clash both teams concentrated on playing good football, and the Tigers lept out to a 31 point lead by the first change, thanks to a 7 goal 5 quarter.

The Blues tried all day to peg back the lead, but couldn't manage it, due partly to the fact that they kicked poorly for goal and also due to Richmond's clever attacking tactics. Their key forwards lead far up the ground and created space in their forward line for resting smaller players. Carlton also focussed too many attacks through true centre half-forward, where Gordon Strang was dominating for the Tigers, taking an impressive 21 marks.
