1896 Grey was named in the Carlton squad to play Ballarat Imperials on May 02.
The Herald said that he kicked better than any other player at Ballarat last Saturday.
Mark Pennings' "Origins of Australian Football" Vol 4 has Sammy Grey playing a total of 3 games in 1893 and 1896.
