Footnote - Was Footballer Doped?

The Advocate, Burnie June 29
J. Moriarty, champion goal kicker of Fitzroy, tells a remarkable story. He states that just prior to the match against Carlton on June 8 he was given a piece of chewing gum by a stranger. "At the end of the first quarter," said Moriarty, "I felt dead and could not play. I was not injured in any way, but whatever was in the gum had the effect of shortening my wind."
It is believed that Moriarty was doped by someone who had an interest in the result of the match.
