Game Review

In this battle for 2nd spot, Fitzroy narrowly beat Carlton to jump up to first position on the ladder as South Melbourne lost. Carlton on the other hand, would drop out of the top 4 into 5th position.

The crowd was described in The Herald late edition as large, the ground was in good condition and what wind there was blew across the ground. There was a collection for the unemployed distress fund.
The Fitzroy side included eight returned soldiers.
Next Friday's Herald (p3) mentioned a sudden southerly change which whipped through Melbourne last Saturday dropping the temperature by several degrees in just minutes, chilling both players and spectators.
At East Melbourne players changed their uniforms at three quarter time. When they resumed one back man was carrying an umbrella!
At the St.Kilda - Melbourne match some players were shivering and blue with cold, some had numb hands and were unable to untie their boot laces or remove their jumpers! Commiteemen and supporters cut the boot laces and helped with the jumpers while providing the players with hot drinks. Doctors ordered some players go straight home to bed.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 5th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 141.6.
