Game Review

Carlton trailed the Hawks by as much as five goals in the first half of this Match of the Day. But after the long break, Blues fans went into rapture as their team first collared, then obliterated Hawthorn in a superb second half of football. Captain-coach Alex Jesaulenko led the way, doing a number on Hawthorn's star Leigh Matthews and once again begging the question - did Matthews ever play well against an in-form Carlton team?

Carlton's slick forward line provided many avenues to goal, and once again there was an even spread among the goal-kickers.

Carlton captain and coach Alex Jesaulenko, was battling on at the age of 33 and in this round reached his 250th game. He celebrated by leading the Blues to a 60 point win over Hawthorn - and by being Carlton's best player. After six rounds Carlton was unbeaten at the head of the ladder, in front of North Melbourne because of a superior percentage. - Football Record.

''Statistically Speaking
Carlton's win over Hawthorn by 60 points again emphasised how important a role their handpassing is playing this season. Carlton had 68.6% more handball with their total of 113 keeping their average of 114 a round intact. The Blues were superior with 8.2% more kicks, 13.7% on marks and had 57% more scoring shots. A surprising aspect of the game was the Hawks 86% advantage in ruck duels, but Carlton's little men were on top. Carlton's Vin Catoggio booted his 50th goal for the Blues. - Ray Young Football Record''
