Game Review

This was a pivotal round for Carlton. The Blues snatched a win from eventual wooden-spooners Melbourne with a six goals to two second half, and Fitzroy beat Essendon - lifting Carlton to third on the ladder.

"Carlton were practically minus Bruce, who was lame at the start. After a brief essay on the wing he had to be replaced by Kennedy."
"After half time the Carltonians asserted themselves, and their shooting for goal improving, they wound up the quarter only 8 points short of Melbourne's total. In the last quarter the players crowded on to the ball, and at times the 36 men were in-side one half of the playing ground. To crowd was perhaps natural considering the closeness of the approaching finish. After about ten minutes of reckless play, Elliott roused the Carlton barrackers to a high pitch of excitement by drop kicking a beautiful goal. Melbourne then attacked strongly, but Carlton's barometer was rising. Two goals followed in quick succession from the feet of Yeomans and Kennedy. The "red legs" still fought hard, and although a fine rush forward yielded a goal (kicked by Bowe), they were beaten, and the remaining five minutes gave no material alteration to the scores."
"Yeomans, who snapped the goal that put Carlton in the lead, received the ball from Grace, who saw the opening, and a few minutes later the veteran repeated the performance by passing to Kennedy." (Age June 12)

At the end of this round Carlton were in 3rd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 88.6.
