Game Review

Carlton would be in control of this match and would have a 5 goal break going into the final quarter. The Bombers then fought back, scoring 4 goals in the final term to Carlton's one, but they were able to hold on to score a 9 point victory.

Stephen Silvagni would be best on ground. He would be moved from his usual role at full back, to limit the drive of the dangerous James Hird, while launching numerous attacks from half back. Michael Sexton would replace him at full back and limit Scott Cummings to just one kick and a benching, while gaining 21 possessions himself. He was well supported by Ang Christou and Glenn Manton, who kept the Blues defence on top. Brett Ratten would pick up 32 possessions and provide plenty of drive in the midfield, along with Greg Williams, with 28 and Anthony Koutoufides, with 24 and 2 goals. Matthew Allan was given rucking responsiblities over Madden and beat the Bomber rucks. Brent Heaver was lively up forward (in the absence of Pearce) with 3 goals.

Although it may surprise a few people, Aaron Hamill in just his third game spent pretty much the entire match in the back pocket on the Bombers Cockatoo-Collins, ceding 2 goals but learning the game all the while.
