Game Review

Despite an impressive second half, the Blues went down to Hawthorn (via defender Brian Douge's late goal) by 4 points in this exciting contest at Princes Park. No two clubs had ever dominated a season up to this point as these two had. Ultimately, neither was able to clinch the flag. Former St Kilda ruckman-forward Rod Galt made his debut for Carlton, adding to the Blues' already impressive line-up of big men.

As expected the two League leaders put on an outstanding exhibition of power football at Princes Park, where Carlton lost by a mere four points. The lead changed at least six times in a thrill-packed last quarter. Hawthorn's win was their 11th in a row, which equals their best ever winning run created in 1961 (when they won the Grand Final). It was only the Hawks ninth century score in 51 years against Carlton - four in the last three years. It was the Blues third loss of the season (Haw, Nth Melb. and Essendon), but they showed great form, even without vice-captain Robert Walls and rover Rod Ashman. - Football Record.
