Game Review

Saturday's Herald said attendance was 20,000

St.Kilda with their ruck dominating attacked but Eric Huxtable, Jim Francis and Bob Chitty repelled their forward moves. Creswell 'Micky' Crisp then got into the game and was able gather the ball out of the centre and set up quite a few Carlton's attacks. Blues went forward seven times with Rod McLean taking strong marks on the forward line, but they only managed one goal through Jack Wrout.
At quarter time the Blues trailled by 2 points. 1.6 - 2.2
Frank Anderson, Jim Park and Bob Chitty early on were playing well on the Blues backline. Bob Green knocked the ball onto Ron Cooper who kicked to George Collard for a Blues' goal. Then Harry Vallence flew for a mark and bought up his first goal after kicking 4 behinds. Then the Saints got on top and scored five goals. The Blues had their chances but wasted them with poor kicking.
At half time Carlton were behind by 17 points. 3.12 - 7.5
After half time the Blues moved Cresswell 'Micky' Crisp to the forward pocket and Eric Huxtable into the centre. Carlton then scored two goals from wingers Jack Carney and Bob Green. The Saints replied with their eighth. Then Ron Cooper got involved and scored a goal. He then handballed to Eric Huxtable whose running drop kick went through. Cooper then marked from Crisp. He kicked to Ansell Clarke whose kick was marked on an angle by George Collard. Collard was facing a difficult shot, but he then short passed to Arch Shields who kicked the Blues' eighth.
At three quarter time the Blues led by 8 points 8.16 - 8.8
Ansell Clarke kicked an early goal and the lead was out to 14 points. St.Kilda then goaled. George Collard passed to Arch Shields and he goaled. Then Jim Park kicked long and Collard soared over the pack. He went back and put it through. George Collard then limped off and he was replaced by Norm Cashin. Then when Eric Huxtable added a running goal, Carlton had kicked four goals straight. Late in the term the Saints scored two late goals.
The Blues won by 10 points. 12.16 - 11.12


At the end of this round Carlton were in 5th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 109.9.
