"There is a great similarity in the uniforms of Carlton and Melbourne, and as precaution against mistakes being made, the Carlton team on Saturday will wear a broad white band on their jerseys.
It will be better for both players and spectators." (Herald 29 July p4)

Game Review

A ripping four-goal third quarter from the Blues tore this game from Melbourne's grasp. The remarkable Billy Leeds top-scored with three goals, while the brothers McShane both had strong games again.

In other results, lowly Geelong accounted for ladder-leaders Fitzroy at Corio Oval, and Collingwood beat Essendon to all but end the Dons' finals hopes. Although third, the Blues were now only two points shy of ladder leadership, with an improving percentage of 103.3.
