Game Review

Carlton won this match by 19 points.

Fitzroy scored the first goal, but after this Carlton controlled the game. Both Alex Lang and Vin Gardiner had shots at goal, but Lang's hit the post, and Gardiner's missed completely. Gardiner then passed to Viv Valentine and his kick bought up the first goal for Blues. Then Valentine helped Gardiner to score the second goal for Carlton. Just before quarter time Paddy O'Brien registered the Blues third goal. 3.7 - 1.3
The Blues started to dominate across the centre where centreman Rod McGregor driving the ball into attack, and winger Charlie Canet's pace and judgment stood him in good stead. The Blues put on three goals, by Valentine, Gardiner, and another by Valentine to Fitzroy's solitary major, Carlton led by 28 points at the halftime break. 6.10 - 2.6
Valentine playing on from a mark scored the Blues' seventh goal. Fitzroy replied with their third, then Lang, Sharp, and Gardiner combined to add another goal for the Dark Blues. Charlie Hammond passing to Athol Sharp to bring up another goal. The 'Roys added another goal. 9.11 - 4.10
Fitzroy had the better of the final term adding four goals to the Blues' two by Gardiner and Hammond. 11.15 - 8.14

At the end of this round Carlton were in 1st spot on the ladder with a percentage of 143.1.
