Grant played a single game for Carlton in Season 1906, but can at least boast of kicking a goal in the VFL. About a dozen players in Carlton's history can make this claim, including Clinton 'Dick' Chandler in 1940, Alex Hanton in 1946 and Tommy Kinman in 1898.

Jack turned up at St Kilda in 1908 and played his last league game without adding to his goal tally.

Grant was originally recruited through the Carlton juniors.

Born John Arthur Grant at Collingwood in 1893 and died aged 71 at Fitzroy in 1954.
