Hardy tried his luck with the Blues in Season 1949, managing 4 games and finishing second in the Gardiner Medal which is the best and rairest award for the VFL reserves competition.
A few years later, Hardy won the Best and Fairest award in the NSW Football League in 1951.
Hardy was originally from NSW, and he also spent some time with Essendon (but did not play a game).
In 1949 Jack Hardy came second in the Reserves Gardiner Medal best & fairest award. He finished with 14 votes, 4 votes behind winner Collingwood's Kevin Coghlan.
He had graduated from Melbourne University in 1948 with a BSc. He had played for University Blacks and trained at Carlton March 1948
Jack was the son of Charlie Hardy a former champion at Essendon & North Melbourne.
Jack or John Hardy was an industrial chemist and his work took him to Sydney where he was playing for the North Shore club. Playing against St.George on August 04 1951, John Hardy kicked 8 goals out of North's 12 in their 4 point win.
