Much like Andy Kennedy, Hammond, who was born in Melbourne, played 2 games for Carlton after debuting in 1906. Hammond also notched a goal in those 2 games. He was recruited from Northcote.

He is the elder brother of Charlie Hammond who played for Carlton and Billy (Collingwood) who both played league football. Jack later played 2 games for 2 goals at Melbourne during 1907.

Jack played in the Carlton team that visited Sydney and played a NSW team at the show grounds on October 15 1906.

Hammond passed away on the 5th June, 1971 aged 86.
