Gary Higgins was recruited from Maryborough / Maryborough Rovers and wore guernsey #29, he played 7 games for Carlton after debuting in Navy Blue in Season 1975. Higgins took Carlton's interest after winning the Marborough Rovers senior best and fairest in 1972 with the club being located in Carlton's rich country recruiting zone.

Higgins was Carlton's 5th debutant in 1975, after Mike Fitzpatrick, Russell Ohlsen, Wayne Deledio and Danny Halloran.

Higgins would play his 7th and final game a day before his 21st birthday in the Blues loss to Footscray on the Queens Birthday Monday Public Holiday.

During the 1976 season Garry Higgins was cleared to VFA club Brunswick.
