Munro played 14 games for Carlton from Season 1954, after representing the Blues at Under 19 level, being a member of the premiership team in 1951 and being a member of the reserves 1953 premiership team.. He kicked 3 goals for the Blues Seniors. Munro would play the first 5 of those games in 1954 in Guernsey number 38, before moving to 22 for 1955 and 1956.

Munro transferred midway through the 1956 season to play with Richmond, he was with the Tigers from mid 1956 to 1957, in this time he managed to play a further 13 games.

Munro was recruited from Princes Hill U/19's and graduated from the Blues U/19's to the senior ranks.
