Charles Melville

Victorian Football Association
Career: 1895-1896

Although information is minimal in relation to Charles Melville, it is known that he represented Carlton over 1895 and 1896.

1895. Melville played well at times during the season.
(Centenary Souvenir of Carlton Football Club. p21)

The Blueseum sought to work out whether Charles was a relative of John 'Jack' Melville, a past player and esteemed administrator at the Carlton Football and Cricket Clubs, and made contact with Jack's relatives. Based on that contact we did not think they were related. However, the following was later uncovered:

The Argus Monday July 1 1895 p6.
Report of the Carlton - Melbourne game at the M.C.G.
On Carlton, " They tried a couple of new men, and Melville, a brother of the Carlton secretary, showed good enough form on the ball to justify the trial given him."

1895 Melville played in the victory over North Melbourne at the M.C.G. on July 6, and he also scored 2 goals against Port Melbourne at Port Melbourne on July 11.

We will update Charles' page when the matter is resolved.
