Sam Anstey played reserve grade football for Carlton in 1999. Anstey was used as a top-up player for the Blues reserves.

Anstey was originally recruited from ACT Club Tuggeranong, he then moved to Melbourne and played for East Sandringham/ He then played for the TAC Cup team the Prahran/Sandingham Dragons. He would be part of the Dragons 1999 premiership team.

In the 2000 season, Anstey played for VFL club Collingwood. In 2001, Anstey played for VFL club Port Melbourne (as pictured) with older brother Jacob.

Sam's brother Jacob Anstey played senior football for Carlton.

Anstey would later play with VAFA club St Bedes- Mentone, he would also take up the position of the senior assistant coach. He was also a key member of their 2006, 2007 and 2008 senior premierships. His teammate in the 2007 and 2008 flags was ex Blues reserves player and former Tuggeranong player Benjamin Phibbs.

Sam though didn't play a senior game for Carlton.
