Game Review

A fast, even game throughout with the Blues' fitness telling out in the final term. The game ended in the gloom with players being indistinguishable from each other.

The Age; "It does seem strange that just at this time of the year the public are not allowed to take an intelligent interest in the last quarter of a finely contested game. What with starting late, an exaggerated half time interval, and "time off," it becomes so dark that the players cannot possibly do themselves justice, nor can the steward be expected to detect any flagrant breach of the rules."

The Football Record (Round 9 1913 issue) reporting on Paddy O'Brien & Billy Dick; "When P.O'Brien was injured in the Carlton-Richmond match the doctor who saw him ordered that he should not return to the field. But O'Brien would not follow the advice. "I can't use my arm very well, I know," he said, "but I think I can mark and kick. And at any rate I can prevent some of the Richmond fellows doing much. And out he went." "Billy Dick's injured shoulder did not deter him at Richmond. He insisted on continuing to play, and, marking the ball on his chest, he was given an opportunity of scoring. The shot was true, and a sixer was registered. It was practically the winner."

The Blues only just managed to hold off the lowly Richmond in this Round 7 away game. Behind at the last change, the Blues scored 3 goals to Richmond's 1 to take the points and move into 3rd spot.
