Game Review

Despite six changes from the side that went down to Collingwood, the Blues had too many answers for the Saints with Justin Madden outstanding.

Carlton, despite the absence of many of its big guns, still proves too accomplished for a desperate St Kilda side at Princes Park. The Saints have the better of Carlton early on in the wet conditions with players such as former Blues Ken Sheldon and Peter McConville, Dean Rice and Frank Coghlan prominent. Ace spearhead Tony Lockett boots St Kilda's two goals in the first term and appears set for a big day, but Carlton coach swings the talented Stephen Silvagni on to him in a telling move. Silvagni restricts Lockett to one further goal and the Saints are unable to convert their chances. Ruck giant Justin Madden again dominates at the centre bounces and around the ground for the Blues providing numerous opportunities for small men Wayne Blackwell, Fraser Murphy and newcomer Ian Herman. - Tony Greenberg Inside Football.
