In a second-successive disappointing loss to a team ranked below them, Carlton fell to North Melbourne at Arden Street, and began to lose touch with the top four.

North Melbourne proved too strong for Carlton with Peter Steward and Noel Teasdale the stars for the Kangaroos, and Wes Lofts and John Nicholls the Blues best players.
