McKenzie

Victorian Football Association
Career: 1889-1890

Originally the Blueseum had a single record for 2 players surnamed McKenzie over 1889-1890.
It has been difficult to pull the information apart. This particular player record is listed as McKenzie but some of the references may be towards the other McKenzie, A.. In particular, there are two players named McKenzie in the Carlton Team photo taken in Sydney in 1890.

New information has come to light. The two McKenzies named in the 1890 Sydney photo could be a printing error. The player named front row, second from the right, looks similar to Wally McKechnie.
A. McKenzie and W. McKechnie both sailed with the team on the S.S. Arawatta to Sydney. Both men played in the games in the harbour capital.
The passenger lists published in the daily newspapers did not separate the team and officials from the other travellers.
(There was a passenger named W. McKenzie on the team's return voyage to Melbourne aboard the S.S. Bulimba.)
However, Blueseum believes until further information comes to hand, that the other McKenzie was in fact Wally McKechnie.

At a reunion of former Carlton players, The Argus mentions that one of the oldest players was a "Dookie" McKenzie who played in the late 1880's.
