Carlton played a practice match with the VJFA on April 24, The Herald Friday April 30 (p2);
Stewart, of Eaglehawk played a slick game for Carlton on the wing on Saturday, but he emerged from a collison with some skin off his nose. "Why didn't you duck? asked George Hooper, one of Carlton's most ardent supporters. "No time," replied Stewart, who added, "It's an introduction to football in Melbourne."

George Stewart, one of 6 Stewarts to play for Carlton, played 2 games after debuting in Round 1, 1909. Also debuting in that game was Alex Barningham and George Renwick and it was the only game that Carlton lost to University.

George Wilkinson Stewart was born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 17, 1882 and was recruited to Carlton from Eaglehawk and played the first two games of the 1909 season. He also played for Eaglehawk in the Wednesday match between these games. (The Bendigo League played their matches on a Wednesday.)

During his lifetime he was also known as

Samuel Boyd Wilkinson-Stewart,
George Samuel Stewart,
George Samuel Boyd Stewart and
George Samuel Boyd Wilkinson-Stewart and it was under this last name he died in Bendigo on December 5, 1966 aged 85 . His nickname was Wilkie.
