Brendan Roberson was taken by the Blues with its fourth and final pick in the 1990 Pre-Season Draft. Roberson was recruited from the Sydney Swans, they had intended to re-draft him but the Blues got under their guard. He was still living in Sydney at the time of his drafting. He was also an All-Australian Teal Cup player in 1988.

In 1992 Roberson would play for Sturt in the SANFL, in 1993 he won the Reserves Margery Medal.

Roberson was originally recruited from Manguplah Cockardinia United.

He did not manage a senior game for Carlton.
